What were we thinking????

After spending over 20 hours this weekend doing senior photos, I happened to reflect on my own senior photo experience. WOW. Things have changed a bit and Thank God!!

A brief overview of my experience without actually whipping out the said photos:

HAIR: Towering high above my forehead stood about 4 -5 inches of crunchy, hairspray covered bangs. It was not humanly possible to move these bangs. No wind, weather, nor hammer could have stood up to this force field of spray.

Once you got past the bangs (which you wouldn't of course, don't be silly) you were left with spiral permed (ooo...I LOVED spiral perms!) long damaged locks. Very classy.

FACE: So sure, I had a few blemishes here and there, but you'll never know! The retouching in those days gave the effect of perfection and possibly a whole new face. Noone looks like that in real life, but who cares?? At least we didn't have achne!

ATTIRE: Ah yes, clothing in the 90's were so cool. I was allowed 4 outfits and it's a good thing because it probably would have only gotten worse.

#1: The Dressy Outfit: A lovely long sleeved, knee length dress. Black with white polka dots. Black pointy flats to finish it off. I can't rip on this outfit too much because it wasn't horrible. It was however too big, but my photographer was clever enough to clamp it in the back to give the illusion it fit. So smart.

#2: The Yearbook Outfit: White pants - tight rolled of course! Forest green, button down, silk shirt. Forest Green Sam & Libby flats. Sounds boring, but did I mention the shirt was made from SILK!

#3: The Jeans & a Long Sleeved Shirt: Tapered jeans (not Guess) tight rolled. A red, RIBBED, long sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up the 3/4 length. The photographer must not have liked this outfit much because he barely took any in it. I don't get why?

and last but not least...

#4:The Fun Summer Outfit: This was by far my favorite outfit and the one I ordered the most photos with. I'm sure you'll understand why. Green and Purple PLAID shorts with LARGE black belt and cuffed for extra shortness. Yes, I said plaid! A Purple shirt with a square neckline - 3/4 length sleeved. Purple Sam & Libby's to complete the ensemble. Yes, this was my favorite outfit and I loved every single photo I took in it. It was SMOKIN HOT!

~Now, accompany these fresh, sassy looks with the cheesiest backgrounds and poses known to man, and you've got some senior photos to sit back and crack up laughing at.

COME ON! What were we thinking? Who wears stuff like that, AND why were photos with a mirror and a fake flower or a big 93 cool?

I'm SO glad the style now is so natural. Natural environments, fun, relaxed, natural poses. Photos now - whether families, weddings, or seniors really show who we are. I know - plaid shorts and big bangs were who I was in 93. We have to give our kids something to make fun of! Put being put in ridiculous poses with crazy backdrops is not who ANYONE is. So good riddance!!

To celebrate 2008 senior photos - I proudly show you these fun photos of Ali. First of all, what a trooper for enduring my fountain idea. She shamelessly jumped right in with my free Cambridge cigarette brand umbrella dug out of my trunk, and had a blast. I'm not sure we are allowed to come back, but it was SO worth it!! Second of all, how cute is she? I doubt her children will have anything to make fun of!!
